FAQ
Solea sleep is a simple, non-surgical treatment that reduces or eliminates snoring by using laser light to gently tighten tissue in the back of your throat. Tightening the tissue opens your airway and reduces vibrations that cause you to snore. It’s a one-time, painless treatment that takes only a few minutes to administer.
Laser light shrinks collagen under your tissue and, as it shrinks, the tissue tightens. It works on the exact same principle as laser wrinkle removal, just applied to the soft palate (the area in the back of your mouth). Because the tissue is tighter, it does not vibrate as much as air passes over it, and that reduces or eliminates snoring all together.
The procedure takes 3 to 5 minutes and is virtually painless for most patients, even without anesthetic. Topical anesthetic spray may be used for some patients to reduce gagging. Those patients often feel nothing at all. Patients who prefer no topical anesthetic (usually because of the taste) will feel some warmth during the procedure, but not to the level of discomfort.
After the procedure, most patients experience absolutely no discomfort. A small percentage may feel like they have a very slight sore throat, but it’s gone within a day. Many patients also say that their airway feels more open immediately after treatment. It is important to know that the collagen continues to tighten for about 30 days following the procedure, so the effects will improve during that time.
The price for Solea Sleep is $750, but because it is a new treatment , we are charging, $599
The doctor (or hygienist) will evaluate you to determine whether you are a candidate and whether you
need to see a sleep physician to rule out Sleep Apnea, a more serious condition.
It works with a single treatment over 90% of the time. About 1 in 10 patients require a second treatment.
Sometimes the airway is so closed that we cannot get the laser energy to the entire soft palate in the first treatment. In that case, the first treatment opens it up enough that we can get to the rest of the area in the second treatment.
No, the tissue tightens for thirty days after the treatment, so it takes a little while for treatment to have a full effect.
You simply come back, and we do the same treatment again. IF a second treatment is required, we will do it at no charge.
It works for virtually all palatal snorers. Nasal snorers will not benefit from treatment unless they are both palatal and nasal snorers. Significantly overweight people may not get great results because there is just too much excess tissue in their soft palate.
This is not a treatment for Sleep Apnea; however, it will reduce snoring for people who snore despite the fact that they wear a CPAP at night.
A sleep test is not always necessary. However, it is helpful in measuring the effect of the Solea Sleep treatment if you do it before and after the treatment.
Snoring is a symptom of Sleep Apnea, which is a more serious condition. If you want to rule out Sleep Apnea, you should definitely see a sleep physician either before or after I perform the procedure.
